Based in Manchester, England I started work circa 1974 helping my mother who worked from home making cushion covers for 'Uncle John'. For 10 years I was involved in the manufacturing of soft furnishings.
John was a close family friend who ran his own business from home - in his garden sheds he had storage and a cutting room and he used to employ local ladies and friends to work from him - he rented sewing machines and installed them in workers homes - a real little cottage industry.
As the business grew he moved his cutting to a premises on top of one of the family shops and I got to work there. We then expanded into a factory site near Houldsworth Square in Stockport.
The business serviced the family shops, market stalls and a distribution network that supplied catalogs.
John sadly is no longer with us - he was a lovely man - an intellectual, you could tell he was an intellectual by the newspapers he used to read and his love of crosswords. Christmas parties in Norley drive were always a great event. John and 'Auntie' Joan were great hosts. I believe that his son Paul now has an interest in the business - the extent to what his concern is I do not know. This website is an example to Paul to demonstrate the direction that he could take the business should he elect to promote The Manchester Brand Internationally.
Working for John for many years allowed me to accrue enough savings to take me on my European Adventure when I left school. John gave me a foundation in manufacturing that has served me well in my professional career.
Note: I am not changing this site - The images and narratives you read are as per the template - and I am not enabling the shopping basket.
This is a showcase of what we can do for you should you elect to contract with Onboard Promotions / Foundation Consulting.
